Simplicity 4192 - Fringe Wrap Pants

Rainy season is coming to Japan. I didn't want to go out, last weekend I spent a lot of time sewing. I made two pants from Simplicity 4192.

I purchased Simplicity 4192 a few years ago in order to make wrapped pants. It was very easy to make them and only took me a few hours. The front and back parts of the pants have tie ends at both sides. To wear pants, wrap the front pants around the waist and tie into a knot at center back. Bring the back tie end, tie in a bow at center front.

I made these pants as a trial, so I was going to wear them around my house. I used cheap cotton but I love them! I only paid 100 Japanese yen (=USD 1) per meter. I made view E and combined plain khaki (front pants) and Indian striped cotton (back pants). Besides that, I sewed the basic tank using the left over fabric.

I had to sew the front and back tie ends but I only made the back ones. I made an elastic belt instead of front tie ends, because It's a hassle to tie in a bow twice. I think the elastic belt pants version can be faster take on and off than the original! I increased the length of the back tie ends by 1 3/4 inches because I wanted to wear them loosely.

Next, these are full length denim version. I increased the length but I shortened the front part of the pants by 3/4 inches than the back because I didn't want to step on the hem of my pants. Can you see the fringes on the hem in these photos? Making the fringes took more time than sewing the pants.

I was glad that they went well with my self-drafted blouse. I really love this pants pattern! It has some other options but I was not interested in them. Since I enjoyed these pants, I might make another pair of pants with this pattern again. I had not worn bulky wrapped-pants before, they were airy and comfortable to wear than I expected.
I wouldn't recommend making these pants with light fabric, because the wind can easily upturn the pants. I never wear these pants on a windy day, wind blows up the pants like a parachute. Ha ha.

Fabric: Denim 60"  2 5/8 yd.
Total time spent : 2-3 hours

  2. So clever for you to replace one of the ties with elastic, Eli! Seems like it'd make it too difficult to use the bathroom otherwise 😳 They look great on you, I've just added these pants to my sewing wishlist now

I NEVER go the bathroom in the pants. Just kidding! Ha ha. Anyway, I'm careful not to fall my pants to the ground.

  4. I love both version you made! *^v^* The striped pants and a blouse look like a set or even like a jumpsuit, and I like that you used plain fabric for the fronts, it makes the whole outfit more interesting. Alse great idea with the elastic at the back!
The jeans version have the 1970's feel, one of my favourite eras in fashion! They go so well with the blouse (which is beautiful btw!) and the blue jeans is always a winner.
I also love you sandals! *^o^*

    1. Thank you, Joanna! These pants look like a "HAKAMA (wide pants which were worn by Samurai). I don't want to wear tight jeans in this season, they are good for summer. I love 1970's fashion too. Let's keep in touch each other and have a chat:D

  10. The fringe is great. I love adding fringe too, and it is not a fast process, but it's worth it! The denim really gives the style the right amount of gravitas! The effect is so stylish!

    1. Thanks a lot, Elizabeth! I really love the fringes on the hem. Using a needle point holder (for flower arrangement) is faster to make a fringe but I don't have one. Recently, I've been considering buying:)

  12. Yes, you must make these in linen - I have a linen pair and they are just so wonderful to wear in summer. I have not seen this pattern. I'm glad you like them - I would not have thought to have paired them with the ladylike blouse, but they look great! And the striped top and pants - so reminiscent of 80's style. Lovely fun to wear in the humid and wet season. A sewing weekend is the very best sort of weekend to have.

  14. Love how this have turned out! The first thing I thought when you said they tie both to front and back was to make it skip the back tie and then read on and seen you did just that and it worked great for you! They both look wonderful on you!

  17. Both of these versions are gorgeous!!! LOVE this!! I have this pattern too and have only made the tank top, not sure I liked the pants after all.... but after seeing yours I will definitely be making the pants!! Really like the way you made the two-patterned version paired with the matching tank. Very pretty! Will take your suggestion of fabric weight into consideration too. :)
