Burda 10-2016-119 Warm Melton Pea Coat

Hi! I made the pea coat from the BurdaStyle Magazine.

I used this pattern, you can get it here; Detachable Fur Collar Coat 10/2016 #119. This white jacket is another version; Cropped Pea Coat 10/2016 #118. I love the both versions.

I cut a size 38. I shortened the sleeve length by 1 3/8 inches, and narrowed the shoulders by 5/8 inches. I had some left over fabrics and two buttons, so I made the back belt from them.

I've made a standard welt pocket. The first time I tried to make this pocket type, so I barely succeeded. It was very difficult to make them. These instructions didn't have any illustrations! I think the standard welt pockets are better made for the thick melton wool. I sewed the red faux leather buttons. They go well with my red gloves.

I made the detachable fur collar but it was too SMALL! I couldn't insert the jacket collar into its casing. It was a complete mistake(> <) I made it using the pattern of the detachable collar but I thought it's too thick to make a collar with fur fabric. I compared the patterns of the detachable collar and the jacket collar and they are the same size. It's strange! I decided to save the detachable collar for a different sewing project. I think that this pea coat looks nicer without a fur collar compared to if it had one.

I wanted to make a basic pea coat. I am very pleased with the result. If you would like to make a basic pea coat, I recommend this pattern.

In my previous post on my blog, I told you that I was planning a printed corduroy dress using McCall's 7470. I made this (view B)! I combined the plain and the printed corduroy cotton. I cut these chest pockets smaller than the conventional pocket pattern. I love this pattern but I won't make another from McCall's 7470. The reason why is that it took three times to get it. That's enough! I would like to make one with a new pattern.

Fabric: Coat 60" 2 1/2yd.

Dress 45" 1 7/8 yd (plain), 45" 1 3/8 yd (print).

Total time spent: Coat 20 hours. Dress 12 hours.
