Vogue 9186 is one of the designs from the summer 2016.
Other than T-shirts, I
stopped purchasing white clothes. Because I often get them dirty (
usually with tomato sauce or soy sauce. haha) . The dress in the second photo
was designed by Viktor and Rolf. When I found the dress in spring-summer
2015. I love the dress with the asymmetry waist band and
drape! I wanted to get the dress but it was too expensive for
me.
This is the Vogue9186;
view B. I was excited when I saw this pattern for the first time! This
pattern looks almost same as the dress I wanted to get. I’ve already done two
dresses that I used this pattern.
View A; Here is cap sleeves version.
I made cap sleeves version but I had some
problems. Because this pattern needs 60" width fabric, but
it's difficult to get the 60" width cotton in Japan. I
don't know why most fabric stores in Japan do not sell cotton with 45" width.
(most of the wool and others are 60" width). I had
to cut the pieces into fabric horizontally, but I
didn't have any problem in practical use. I love Vogue 9186! I am
glad that I purchased the pattern. I sometimes draw the patterns
but I can not draw this on my own.
Total time spent: White 12hours, Navy 4 hours
Fabric: White 45" 3yrd, Navy 45" 2 5/8
Fabric: White 45" 3yrd, Navy 45" 2 5/8
Just have to say WOW! Both dresses look stunning on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Georgia! I am glad that hear from you. I love the both dresses:)))
DeleteGreat dresses!!! Beautiful on you!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Tee! I am happy with the both styles:)
DeleteBeautiful dresses! Both look high-end fashion! I love your jewelry; they match so well. Did you take a class on how to make jewelry? I really want to figure out how to make some pieces to match my clothing as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shirley! I have never taken a class. I used the online jewelry community and books. I often purchase some jewelry-making books from the book store when I visit abroad.
DeleteI will have to look for some books! I just love your jewelry that you are making.
DeleteBoth dresses are so amazing, Cat! I can't believe you make your own jewelry too. You are so creative.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Olivia! I often make my jewelry. It's very fun to make:)
DeleteWow Cat-these are both fabulous! I have the pattern and am about to make it,so thanks for your tips.x
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Sarah! Are you going to make it? I am looking forward to your dress. I may think this pattern is larger than other patterns.
Deletethose are both so sophisticated - I wondered who would make this pattern. you have created such unique pieces. I really love the mosaic print version, with the boatneck.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Beth! I agree with you! I looked for the reviews about this pattern, but I couldn't find. I am glad you like it with boatneck:)
DeleteOh Eli! How lovely these are! This pattern I have never seen before. I laughed so hard when you said about not making white because you get it dirty, I know exactly what you mean;) me too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maureen. I don't know why I often get dirty or spill coffee on my white clothes. Haha
DeleteOh wow - both of these dresses are GORGEOUS! I love the mosaic printed one and the changes you made to it are perfect. The jewelry you made is beautiful. You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tomasa! I am so flatterd! I really love the both jewelry too :)

ReplyDeleteMariana
Thank you, Mariana! I am glad that you like them. Your comments are always lovely.
DeleteAmazing! You really pulled it off! When I saw this pattern when it came out, my reaction was like, "wow, it's too dramatic to wear". But the dress design fits you very well, and it's not drastically dramatic as I thought. Great projects!
ReplyDeleteThank you Maya-san! I agree with you, If I didn't see that dress designed by Viktor and Rolf, I wouldn't get the pattern, ha ha.
DeleteLove both versions, especially the white one! You really pull it off, I'M amazed! I'm still very shy when it comes to brave fashion lines - I sometimes feel I'm too grounded to try couture and such things.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comment! I know how you feel because I am typical shy Japanese, ha ha. I love your works and look forward to your next post(^^)

ReplyDeleteThank you for your mention of the armholes!! I tried my dress on and freaked out because they were so tight. I used a weighty satin back silk and didn't want to lose it=It has turned out okay~kinda classy. The only problem now is when to wear it : /
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind comment, Jane! I recently tried the view A(Cap sleeve version) but I had the same problem as view B. However I will make it again. I would like to look yours:D

ReplyDeleteHi there Eli,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that I found your blog! You sew so many beautiful garments. I bought this pattern after seeing yours - I hope to make a version like your short sleeved one. Both versions look lovely on you!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, thornberry! I am pleased! I love the this pattern. This short sleeve version is really easy to sew and comfortable to wear. Please try to make the one:)
DeleteHi Eli, I've discovered you in the PR Member Spotlight and so glad I did! I love your style and already got so much inspiration. I am making this pattern right now, because I loved your so much. Quick question on the white version. I found the instructions for the neck placket stupidly complicated, did you follow those or did something different. Also, for boat neck one, did you make any modifications when you removed the placket? Many thanks! Alex
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading, Sewrendipity London! I'm afraid I didn't use the instructions, so I usually make the neck placket with this method: http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~ange-s/lesson/lesson2.html
Delete(Sorry, this website is written only in Japanese but it's easy to understand)
This boat neck version is a pullover dress. You can omit to make the placket. I sewed a bias tape facing to the inside of neckline.
How did you sew the sleeves well? It was very difficult for me:(((
I hope you will find it helpful. Thank you.
Love this dress Eli, so crisp and fresh looking! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, ivonanagel! I am glad that you like it:)
ReplyDeleteWow, the dress you made looks better than the orginal. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog, Chantal! I really love this pattern. I recommend it to everyone:)))
DeleteBoth dresses are gorgeous, but the print one really got my attention!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind comment, Faye. I am glad that you like both:D
DeleteThe white dress is so very special but the print one is lovely and perhaps more practical for my lifestyle, too. Thanks for the placket link which I just pinned for my sewing tutorial collection.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting, Jane. It was tricky to make the placket but I enjoyed it. If my blog helps your project, I am pleased:)))
DeleteWould you mind me sharing either of these on Sassy Sewing Bees in the future? I link to your post and let you know when. https://www.facebook.com/SassySewingBees
