Butterick 6355 Tail Dress and Blouse

I just finished two projects from Butterick 6355.

I used view B. I was going to make my dress using Butterick 6355, but after looking at the illustration, I am worried about the sleeves. Ummmm? The sleeves are located under the armpits in the illustration. Really? I thought they were too low. I decided to make a muslin before making a dress.

At first, I made this white cotton blouse as a trial. This pattern doesn't include a placket, but I added it. I chose a size S. These sleeves were too low and uncomfortable to wear. I cut the armholes by 3/4 inches, also shortened the elastic by one inch and shortened the sleeve length by two inches. I did it and it was perfect fit.

I love the tailed and A-line shaped design, but I don't want it to make me look bigger. They have big silhouettes, but don't look so droopy to make a placket. I made the navy dress after I finished the blouse. I sewed the dress using Italian cotton which, at a glance, looks like suede. However, the dress is airy and comfortable to wear. I think light linen matches the dress version too. I increased the length by 15 3/4 inches, so I ended up taking 3/4 inches off of each side seam.

I made the blouse as a trial but I love it better than another dress that I made. This pattern doesn't need a zipper and has other nice options. I recommend it to beginners.

I love the A-line look of the dress. I would love to make a view A (layers flare) next time. I enjoyed making these. It's very fun dress to make and wear.

  3. The shape is very interesting. I like the blouse version but I absolutely adore the dress!!! *^V^* You made a great job moving the sleeves up a bit, I agree they looked strange starting under the armpit line.
You've just inspired me again with another project! I think I need a blue linen dress for this Summer. ^^*~~

  7. the navy dress is such a sophisticated look and is beautiful on you. and the test version is so cute with the cargo pants. So far I have not been a fan of the cold shoulder look but your versions are really nice.
